Introduction to Time Series Analysis and Forecasting

by Murat Kulahci
Sponsored by ASQ-CPID
Saturday, October 11, 2008 | $250

Appropriate analysis of time-oriented data and subsequently making reliable forecasts about the future observations are of great importance in many fields such as managing and controlling production operations, finance and economics. The data collected in time often exhibit a serial correlation which violates the basic assumption of independence of the observations used in many statistical analysis techniques. The specific set of tools that will be presented in this short course will be helpful in providing a better understanding of the general structure of time series data and an ability to perform the appropriate analysis. The topics that will be covered are the exponential smoothing techniques, ARIMA models, and the transfer function models. The best way to learn the analysis of time series data and forecasting is by actually performing those tasks. Therefore throughout the day there will be many exercises that participants will have the chance to work on individually. Hence they are expected to bring their laptops with SAS JMP v7 already installed. Please note that SAS JMP v7 can be obtained from www.jmp.com for a free trial period of 30 days.
